The History and Evolution of Tools and Fasteners – A Brief Insight

The use of different types of tools and fasteners goes back many thousands of years. Some of the ancient monuments like the pyramids, The Roman mausoleum, and others were built using different kinds of devices. However, in those days, technology was not as advanced and sophisticated as it is today. As a result, it took them a long time to build a structure and give them the proper shape. However, it needs to be mentioned in this context, that even though they didn't have the best of tools and devices at their disposal; they had still managed to pull off some of the greatest architectural works the world has ever seen. Even modern engineers believe that it would take them a considerable period of time and a humongous amount of labor in order to build something as massive as a pyramid, using the latest technology which they have at their disposal. It not only proves that ancient craftsman was highly skilled but at the same time, the tools and devices which they used we're very effective and was capable of giving the right shape and angles.

The Industrial Revolution Brought About a Change in Tools

It was during the time of the industrial revolution, a huge change was noticed when it comes to tools and different other types of devices that were used. This is an era that is considered to be the Golden age of industrial innovations. All the modern tools and fasteners which are used today, have their designs and mechanisms derived from that period. For instance, something as simple and commonly used as a hammer was introduced with new designs and mechanisms, which had made it doubly effective. Besides, more advanced and sophisticated designs were introduced when it comes to fasteners. They become much more sturdy and durable and became more effective when it comes to offering a stronghold.

Some Common Types of Fasteners That Are Used Today

As far as the tools and fasteners are concerned, these days, there are wide varieties of different types of them that are used. Here are some of the most common fasteners that are used in the industrial sectors.

  1. Carriage Bolt: These bolts are also known as coach bolts, come with a countersunk or domed head. These types of bolts are very commonly used in the manufacturing sectors, as they are known for offering a very stronghold.

  2. Machine Screws: These are screw bolts that come with flat points. These bolts are available in a wide range of different types and can be used in multiple different types of applications. They are also known by the name of stove bolts.

  3. Hex Head Bolts: These types of bolts come with a hexagonal head, and a wrench is required to drive them.

  4. Shoulder Bolts: Also known as stripper bolts or shoulder screws, these are used in different types of machines. These bolts can be installed using a socket driver or by hand.

  5. Square Head Bolts: These bolts are quite similar to that of hex cap screws, except for the fact that they come with 4 heads. With these numbers of heads, these bolts offer a very strong resistance power and are capable of withstanding a lot of pressure.

Apart from these, there are different other kinds of fasteners and bolts that are used these days. These bolts are made of metals; stainless steel primarily. Besides, different other kinds of alloys are also used in making these bolts.

When it comes to tools and fasteners, these days, multiple different options are available. From the construction sector to the aerospace industries; they have proven to be an indispensable part, as far as machinery and tools are concerned.
